The groundbreaking visual effects of F.W. Murnau’s FAUST have remained shrouded in mystery since its release 100 years ago. Now, the publication of a long-lost book assembled by the filmmaker’s closest collaborators has revealed the spectacular secrets of this expressionist masterpiece. Utilising a trove of newly-unearthed sketches and on-set photographs, this exclusive Program Notes short documentary by Amos Levin and Ben Porro explores the artistic vision and technical wizardry behind the film’s most astonishing sequence: the flight around the world.
